Strong Industry Turnout at 6th Edition of North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show
St. John’s, NL – The 6th biennial edition of the North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show took place November 16 and 17 at the Mile One Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Even faced with challenging weather conditions, the event was happy to welcome 3,478 industry buyers from Newfoundland & Labrador, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Iceland and further. Every square inch of the Mile One Center was filled with over 100 local and international exhibitors showing the latest technologies and services available to the commercial fisheries, fish processing, aquaculture, and other marine sectors.
“We are quite pleased with the success of this edition of the show,” said Shawn Murphy, Show Manager. “With great crowds over the two days, attendance was excellent with a high rate of first-time visitors. Exhibitors have told us the right audience was there; many reported making sales and having plenty of leads to follow up with.”
As part of the event, three deserving individuals were inducted into the Atlantic Canada Marine Industries Hall of Fame, with remarks on Friday afternoon from the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. This recognition pays a lasting tribute to those who have made valuable contributions in any sector of the marine industry. Congratulations to this year’s inductees:
- Cecil Pitcher (Mariner)
- Bill Barry (Processor)
- Byron Collins (Builder)
Bernadette Hyde was the lucky winner of the show’s Passport Program. This engaging activity gave visitors a chance to collect stamps from the booths of five sponsors and enter their completed ballot into a prize draw. Bernadette was the lucky winner of a package valued at more than $4,000.00. Congratulations! Thank you to the Passport Program sponsors: Oil Filtration Solutions, Helly Hansen, Mackay Marine, Mills Pittman & Twyne, and Atlantic Electronics Ltd.
Thank you as well to BDC, sponsors of the Friday morning exhibitor reception.
The North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show would not be possible without the ongoing support of its presenting partner: The Navigator. With their pulse on the industry and close ties to the fishing community in Newfoundland & across Atlantic Canada, the show benefits from their continued support. As part of this year’s partnership, a reception was held at Club One with the Kelly Ann Evans Band on Friday evening, enjoyed by exhibitors and visitors alike.
Thanks to all who made the 2018 edition of the North Atlantic Fish & Workboat Show a success. See you in 2020!
